Athletes, especially in the Olympics or in professional leagues in North America, come from all around the world to compete in their sports. That can sometimes create for interesting or unfamiliar names for the average sports fan, but often these are just ethnic or religious names that are normal in the player's culture. Sometimes, players just have strange or funny names that will cause a double-take when reading about them. It's not like athletes are exempt from being slightly bizarre.
